Euro Trip Part 5 of Many

Day Trips Part 3
After Brugge, we hopped on the train to the Netherlands!

Amsterdam
I (Laura) have never seen so many people with dreads. Other than Jamaica. And even then, Amsterdam is a close second. It's a popular hairstyle, Troy fit right in. And a few people thought Troy was a resident, because they asked him where things were around the city - in Dutch.

Trying to journal everything that had happened so far on the train ride.
Second train to get to Amsterdam, Laura 3DS'd.
The Antwerp train station. The escalators followed the path of the stairs, meaning they leveled off briefly before continuing down so you wouldn't have to take a single step on the escalator if you didn't want to.
The "Where's Waldo?" of hotels. It was bigger on the inside. (Like a TARDIS!)
It was also an artsy kind of hotel. This was the second floor's lobby.
And the third floor's lobby.
And our floor's lobby - fourth floor. Although it was called the 3rd floor, because in Europe, they call the ground floor the ground floor, instead of what we would call the 1st floor.
The window in our hotel room had a Laura hiding in it!
Troy was just excited to lay down.
Our pretty lights in the room.
Apparently the room's name was "Juanita", named for the designer of the room, who was influenced by India and Mexcio for this look.
An Amsterdam street. Check out all the bicycles.
Very thoughtful of this public restroom.
All kinds of stuff to see in Amsterdam windows.
You learn something new every day.
A fun painting.
Some thought provoking graffiti.
A picturesque church. You can't see it, but this is next to the Anne Frank House. Which we toured. It was very sobering.
I guess we all do.
Team Raptor, taking a break from walking everywhere.
About to take a night boat tour of Amsterdam.
Troy, pondering the world.
Amsterdam is so pretty at night.
Amsterdam has lots of bridge, because there's lots of canals that run through the city. At night, the bridges light up, which is a nice look.
Laura, excited to be on a boat.
The vertical "xxx" is the logo for Amsterdam. So this sign is saying that Amsterdam loves bicycles. And they really do. This sign was at the top of a bicycle parking lot 3 stories high, full of people's bikes.
The train station we used earlier that day.
We ventured out the next day and found some cars driving on the sidewalk. Why not?
I could live in that building.
Laura practicing her camouflage skills again.
Everything is so OLD!
I wonder if they have a mosquito problem, with all that water. Laura's friend, Jenny, was in Europe this summer also, and visited Amsterdam. (Unfortunately, our Europe schedules didn't match up. She left Europe about a week before we flew out to London.) She complained of multiple bug bites bicycling around the city, but thankfully, Team Raptor here didn't have that problem.
We Amsterdam'd.
Like a boss, we Amsterdam'd. We toured the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, and successfully avoided second-hand highs from everyone smoking weed. But unsuccessfully avoided the red light district. Laura had to cover Troy's eyes till we were free and clear of the place. (Just kidding.) (Kind of.)

  1. Love your posts! I thought it was funny that they thought Troy was a resident but it would be nice to blend in and not have everyone know that you are a tourist. Dad also did the old driving on the sidewalk thing in Haarlem. I am sure you can imagine my reaction. Yeah, next time we are DEFINITELY taking public transportation. or maybe we will bike.
